How Does A Hearing Loop Work?

A hearing loop is a rather simple device that uses old technology in a new way. The actual loop of wire that encircles the room was used as a signal amplifier for telephones when handsets were first introduced. Now they are used to gather sound through a microphone and then translate that sound into electromagnetic signals. Once it becomes a signal, it is amplified throughout the room so that it can be captured by a telecoil.

The benefit to this is most modern hearing aids already come with a telecoil built into them, and they only need to be activated through a t-switch. The t-switch allows the hearing aid to pick up sound from the room and translate it into sound in the hearing aid.
