August is Evanston Audiology's Anniversary Month

It's hard to believe that it has already been three years since I purchased Evanston Audiology from Dr. Lowery Mayo (so she could begin her family's new adventure in Ireland). My practice manager Dave (who happens to be my husband) and I were so pleased to be back in the practice after my pandemic-induced time away from the Evanston Audiology team and its family of patients. We have created a safe and inclusive environment for adults and kids that welcomes all with an ethos of choosing kindness and compassion. We try every day to provide the very best personalized hearing care possible. But making such a huge change also felt daunting in August of 2022.
I was fulfilled by teaching and providing patient care at Rush University but knew this opportunity was one I could not pass up. Returning to Evanston Audiology meant I could catch up with patients I had been seeing for over a decade while also joining a new host of patients on their hearing journey for the first time. There have been lots of learning moments as I made this practice my own.
Comprehensive Care Options
I'm grateful to continue to be fully independent – offering hearing care solutions from all the major brands, both prescription and over the counter options. Many of my colleagues were very concerned about the effect that OTC may have on our clinical services. I'm glad to report that by joining forces with OTC, rather than fighting the inevitable, I'm able to offer more options to every person that walks through our practice's door or finds me at one of the many senior communities I visit – Mather Evanston, Trulee Evanston, The Merion, Westminster Place, and The Carrington have welcomed me to their properties, and other home and bedside visits when I'm needed.
Meeting with patients where they live has turned out to be hugely rewarding and a way for me to break down the barriers of distance and mobility that affect so many of our community. We have recently added hospice visits when requested in Evanston and surrounding neighborhoods.
Ultimately, I'm pleased to read that most people benefit most on their hearing journey by having the assistance of an audiologist like me (Audiology-led service models lead to the best hearing aid outcomes for consumers jamanetwork.com/journals/jamaotolaryngology/fullarticle/2833823?utm_source=hearingtracker.com).
Training the Next Generation
I really loved teaching audiology graduate students during my time at Rush University and am so pleased to continue this experience at Evanston Audiology. Many of you have met our wonderful students in training from Rush and Northwestern Universities. Thank you for allowing them into your care and teaching them so much more than I ever could about living with hearing loss, tinnitus, or protecting your normal hearing for tomorrow.
Exciting Future Plans
Exciting things are still to come! This year will mark a new collaboration with Chicago Tap Theatre (chicagotaptheatre.com) as I become the company's Hearing Health Ambassador in their 23rd Season. I also continue to support Community Empowerment in the Dominican Republic to provide hearing diagnostic services, hearing aids, and supplies. I hope to join them on a mission trip in 2026, my first time on the ground in the DR since 2022. In the meantime I'll be supporting their annual Art for Health gala in Fall 2025 and regularly sending donated supplies and loaning equipment.
To our whole patient family, thank you for getting us to this milestone! And to new visitors to hearwellevanson.com, we can't wait to meet you.
